Everyone has a down day from time to time; fortunately, these also pass. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone and some people end up in depression. The gloomy feeling takes over and a way out is not visible.
Then you can turn to GGZ online to help you as quickly as possible. Because we offer online therapy for depression symptoms.
What is depression?
Depression is a mood disorder characterized particularly by a lack of zest for life or constant gloom. These symptoms then persist for more than two weeks, and the period during which you experience this is called a depressive episode.
When treatment for depression is not fully completed, you may be left with residual symptoms, and with this, the likelihood of relapse is greater. This is why it is important to raise the alarm and work with a psychologist.
What can you recognize depression from?
There are several characteristics by which you might recognize depression. First of all, depression is accompanied by a depressed mood, but also the appetite for activities you normally enjoy doing is diminished. In addition, you may experience fatigue or just restlessness. Furthermore, many of the symptoms are personal and can change.
For example, your appetite may change and thus your weight. You may be sleeping worse or sleeping more than usual. In addition, you may feel guilty, helpless, worried or anxious. Finally, depression can be associated with suicidal thoughts, but this is not necessarily the case.
Depression is usually caused by a combination of things such as heredity, personality, one’s childhood or lack of social safety net. It may also be that a particular event gives you a lot of grief or that you have experienced violence (emotional, sexual, war, etc.). Depression may also be chemical and have its origin in an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain.
Other things that may come into play are underlying chronic diseases such as COPD, diabetes mellitus or rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, alcohol consumption can play an important role in the development of depression. Sometimes the cause is obvious, but you don’t know how to deal with it yourself. Sometimes it is also less obvious, but even then a psychologist can help figure this out with you.
At GGZonline, we offer specialty mental health services.
Online therapy, how does it work?
Depression is usually treated by a psychologist; you will get a referral from your family doctor for this. The nice thing about GGZ online’s care is that you can get treatment quickly. In the first online appointments, the diagnosis is made. On this basis, the rest of the treatment can be continued. The appointments all take place from your own familiar surroundings, and in this, cognitive behavioral therapy is used.
With this therapy, our goal is for you to experience a better quality of life after two months. If deemed appropriate, we may also use EMDR. This has often proved successful. With this combination of therapies, 80% of our clients’ symptoms have completely disappeared.
